Sport for People with Diabetes

Sport is an important activity that should be done every one to stay healthy. For patients with diabetes, either controlled or not controlled, the benefits of exercise even more. The results showed that exercise or physical activity can:

  •  Increasing the sensitivity of body cells to insulin which helps lower blood glucose and blood lipid levels. 
  • Lowering blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels, increase good cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart disease.

  • Reduce the risk of complications of.
  •  Strengthen the heart, muscles and bones.
  •  Lowering stress levels.

The types of exercise are good for diabetic patients include:


Aerobic:
 Aerobic exercise makes the heart and bones strong, reduce stress and improve blood flow. Aerobics also lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke by keeping blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure within normal range. Perform aerobic exercise for 30 minutes at least 5 times a week . If you're new to exercise, do 5-10 minutes a day, then increase gradually each week. Examples of aerobic exercise that can be done is walking briskly, dancing or aerobics classes . If you have a problem with the nerve foot or knee joints, you should reduce the load on the foot by choosing swimming, cycling or rowing .

Lifting weights:

Weight training can help improve bone strength and muscle while burning fat and maintaining bone density. Perform weight training 2-3 times a week in addition to aerobic exercise. Weight training can be done with sit ups, push ups, lifting weights at home or using exercise equipment in the fitness center.


Other activities?

 In addition to exercise, physical activity can also be done while doing daily activities are extra, for example:
  • Picking up stairs of the escalator or elevator ride.
